Redevelopment of The Framework Knitters’ Museum, Nottingham

Jim took on the management of this gem of a museum in 2018 and lead it through a major redevelopment. Working with volunteers, artists, wellbeing groups and makers he refurbished and reinterpreted this unique site. We knew the site had a powerful story to tell, but it just wasn’t reaching enough people. With funding from the Heritage Fund and thousands of hours of hard work, we recreated the homes and workspaces of the manager and his workers as well as a new cafe, community wellbeing garden and exhibition space. The visitor response has been amazing and the number of community groups using the site now has paid off all the hard work. Visitor numbers are at an all-time high and new apprentices are being trained to continue this ancient endangered craft.
